It's Lucky Bag Season! 🛍️

Lucky bag season is one of our favourite parts of the New Year, and if you’ve ever spent January in Japan, you’ll know just how exciting it is 😃

Lucky bags (known here as fukubukuro) are a long-standing New Years tradition. Throughout January, shops across the country create special mystery bags filled with surprise items and offer them at a discounted price. You never quite know what you’re going to get, but that’s half the fun.

Originally, lucky bags were mostly offered by clothing brands, with hordes of shoppers lining up super early in the morning to ensure they can snag a bag for themselves before they sell out. But as the tradition grew in popularity, more and more shops joined in. These days, you can find lucky bags for almost anything you can imagine! From cosmetics and food, to books, home goods… there’s even a Pokemon Center bag!

For us, putting together lucky bags each year is such a blast. It’s our chance to share the lucky bag custom of Japan with the world, mixing our favourite items, seasonal pieces, and a few surprises 👀

Lucky bags are a fun way for customers to discover items they might not normally pick for themselves. There’s something special about opening a mystery bundle, not knowing what you’re going to get, and ending up with some unexpected favourites!
